Whilst doing the usual shopping trip at Tesco, we decided to have a Sunday brunch at the recently opened Giraffe restaurant in Watford, just on Tesco’s doorstep.

Giraffe is a great place to take kids, staff members were friendly, kids get play items, and the interior is very playful with artwork and very modern. But don’t worry there is a bar too for all you adults that need a tipple after your shopping trip.

After we were seated to our table of 3, and given our menus, we started with the drinks, just the usual coke for me, a kid’s coke with a giraffe on top, which is part of the kids menu for my nephew and the other diner opted for the very refreshing fresh cloudy lemonade with mint (£2.25).

The menu has a good variety serving breakfast, brunch, starters and sharers, mains and of course desserts. Having a 7 year old with us, he opted for the kids menu for £4.95 where you get a main and drink, the chosen dish was Chips, Beans & Fish Fingers, nothing to rave home about but portion size was good and he ate it all.

I opted for the ‘Veggie Brunch’ (£8.25) with included veggie sausages, the choice of fried, poached or scrambled eggs (I opted for fried yum!), baked beans, avocado, mushrooms and a toasted artisan sourdough. I must although it doesn’t look that appealing in the picture it was nice, very pricey for something you could easily knock up at home, but it was enjoyable and a perfect portion size for me.

The other diner on the other hand raved on about her choice of a ‘Huevos Rancheros Mexican Breakfast’ which included a choice of fried, poached or scrambled eggs (fried was selected), black beans, chorizo sausage, avocado and tomato salsa with adobe sauce served on a warm soft corn tortilla. This looked really different and I was told tasted “soooo good”!! Hmmmm looks like I opted for the wrong dish…gutted!!

To end my nephew opted for Kids Sundae, served with vanilla ice-cream, fresh strawberries and chocolate sauce (£2.55) but as the staff forgot about the ordered dessert, it was given to us free of charge due to the wait time, which was a nice gesture.

Overall Giraffe is a fun family restaurant and what’s great is that it’s right on Tesco’s doorstep, which makes a great pre or post shopping place to have a sit down meal. A lot of the dishes are simple for the price, where you could easily go grab the ingredients from the supermarket and make it yourself, but who wants to cook at times. Either way Giraffe also stands by the quote ‘Love, Eat, Live’ which I loved!
