Having been to Hakkasan before, I was delighted that my future sister in law decided to pick this restaurant for a meal out. Being a popular restaurant we did an advanced booking months ago and decided on branch on Hanway Place in Tottenham Court Road
Hakkasan in Hanway Place is hidden away, once you find the restaurant you’ll be greeted by a host at the door, who will check your reservation and then guide you down the stairs to the basement of where the restaurant is situated. The inside of the restaurant is dark, but with a stylish interior, the restaurant is divided up onto areas by screens and there is also a bar where you can a few drinks whilst waiting for your table, the cocktails are lush and a must.

Once seated, we embarked on our Chinese meal journey, and we couldn’t wait. The menu is fab catering for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, with a huge selection of dishes. We started with the Dim Sum Platter which included scallop shumai, har gau, Chinese chive dumpling and shimeji dumplings. I’m a huge fan of Dim Sum and these were all cooked very well with so much flavour.

Other appetisers included Salt and Pepper Squid, Golden Fried Soft shell Crab served with red chilli and curry leaf, Jasmine Tea Smoked Organic Pork Ribs were also selected:

The next selections included Spicy Prawns with lily bulb and almond, Morning Glory Stir-fry in chili, bean curd and ginger sauce:

And finally: Hakka Noodles with shimeji mushrooms and beansprout, Grilles Chilean Sea-bass in honey, and Jasmine Tea Smoked Chicken:

The journey so far was excellent, each dish had its individual taste stamp to it, the ingredients are of high quality and every dish tasted delicious. My favourite was the Sea Bass, it was so soft and tender with bags of flavour.
Even though I couldn’t eat any more, I was tempted by the dessert menu and selected the Jivara Hazelnut Bomb, a layer of rice-crispies with milk chocolate and hazelnut ice-cream doused in a luscious hot chocolate sauce. This dessert was fantastic; the combinations worked well and ended the night well.

Hakkasan is a great restaurant for Chinese food, the experience and food is of high standard, and the menu caters for all tastes. The cocktails are fab and the food is of the highest quality. The only negatives are the prices and the dim lighting, but either way I can’t wait for my next trip.
