On a recent trip to Dubai, booked by the concierge of our hotel, we headed for some Chinese cuisine at the Shang Palace restaurant in the Shangri-La hotel.
On arrival we headed towards the restaurant within the hotel which is tucked into the mezzanine floor of the Shangri-La hotel. Once greeted at the reception we were seated at our table. The interior is red with gold traditional décor and very dim lighting.

To begin with we were handed a cold towel and jasmine tea, which was a lovely gesture. Menu wasn’t exhausting which was great and we decided on two dishes to start with, the handmade Chinese dumplings, and salt and pepper calamari, both dishes were lovely.

Onto the mains we opted for the braised chicken with shallots in black pepper sauce served in clay pot and the braised eggplant with spicy sauce served in clay pot and egg fried rice.

Both dishes were nice, but the braised eggplant was my favourite it wasn’t over cooked or chewy and had bags of flavour.
If you’re looking for a decent Chinese meal in Dubai the Shang Palace is recommended, service is very friendly, the food was good and the atmosphere was a delight. The prices are a bit steep, but then again you are in Dubai so definitely worth the trip for a special occasion.
